History of the Fairmont - Hahntown Volunteer Fire Department
Fairmont - Hahntown VFD organized in February 1942 to provide fire protection for the areas of Fairmont, Cereal, Hahntown,Wendel Road and Adams Hill. Eight men; John Peretto, Pete Gubanich, Jack Strubble, Jake Welfy, Joe Hrabak, Joe Fox, Paul Yancick, and Pete Ryko assembled in Perretto's Garage on Hahntown Road(Main Street) to formulate plans to purchase a fire truck for the new company.
The company was called The Fairmont-Hahntown Volunteer Fire Company Number 4. At this time, the company was jointly associated with the Larimer department until the company received its own charter on July 25, 1944. The purposes of the said corporation were formed;
1.) To support and maintain a volunteer fire department in the communities of Fairmont and Hahntown and vicinity in the Township of North Huntingdon for the protection of life and property endangered by fire; to purchase , lease, and acquire equipment for fighting fires; to acquire by lease, deed or otherwise, real estate for the housing, preservation and maintenance of said equipment, and for the maintenance of a home and other quarters for the members thereof.
2.) To encourage and foster civic activities for the benefit of said communities in The Township of North Huntingdon, and to provide means and facilities for the social enjoyment of its members.
3.) To provide and maintain a fund for the benefit and relief of its members who may be injured or killed while actually engaged in performing the duties of a volunteer fireman of said fire department, or while going to or coming from a fire as such.

The corporation was formed with no real property, and $500 personal property. On February 26,1946 the name was officially changed to Fairmont and Hahntown Volunteer Fire Department and Relief Association.
A building owned by Pete Peretto was the first station. Then a new building was erected in 1953 on the corner of Main and Rose Streets in Hahntown through generous contributions and the assistance of the Ladies auxiliary. A new addition was built in 1957, 1973, 1978 and 2004.
